Taiwan Solar Capacity Growth, 2016-2025

Installed solar capacity rose from 1.25 GW in 2016 to 15.47 GW by end-2025.

What the Data Shows

Taiwan’s solar capacity trend shows how fast the island has scaled one of its main renewable-energy pillars. The 2025 level was more than twelve times the 2016 level, even though it remained below earlier 20 GW policy ambition. The trend is useful because it separates real installed capacity from headline targets.

Data table

2016 1.25 GW
2022 9.72 GW
2023 12.42 GW
2024 14.28 GW
2025 15.47 GW

Data notes & caveats

Selected-year trend, not annual additions. Earlier-year values should be refreshed from the Energy Statistics Handbook tables before final high-stakes publication.

Methodology

Capacity values are shown in gigawatts. 2024 and 2025 values use Energy Administration/Taipower-reported installed renewable-capacity figures; 2016 and 2022 are included from published summaries of official energy statistics. Growth multiple equals 2025 capacity divided by 2016 capacity.
