TSMC Revenue per Employee Versus Samsung, Intel and Hon Hai

TSMC generated about US$1.07 million per employee in 2024, ahead of selected peers.

What the Data Shows

Revenue per employee is not a perfect productivity metric, but it exposes the economics of different technology business models. TSMC’s capital-heavy foundry model generates large revenue with a smaller workforce than electronics assemblers. Samsung and Intel combine chip and device/foundry operations, while Hon Hai is labour-intensive by design. The comparison is strongest when read as business-model intensity, not worker output alone.

Data table

TSMC US$1.07m 83.8k staff
Samsung US$0.84m 262.6k staff
Intel US$0.49m 108.9k staff
Hon Hai US$0.27m ~800k staff

Data notes & caveats

Employee definitions differ by company and region. Intel and Hon Hai employee denominators require source-labelled review, so treat the ranking as a business-model benchmark rather than an audited labour-productivity ranking.

Methodology

Revenue was taken from company 2024 reports or official results releases. TSMC reports U.S.-dollar revenue directly. Samsung revenue was converted from Korean won (KRW) using Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED). Hon Hai revenue was converted from New Taiwan dollars using an approximate 2024 NTD/USD average; Intel reports in U.S. dollars. Revenue per employee equals revenue divided by reported or source-labelled employee count.

Source consistency notes

Revenue sources are company reports or official results. Currency conversions and employee-count definitions are not perfectly harmonised across peers, so the comparison is source-labelled.
