Taiwan Semiconductor Output per Resident vs Korea Export Intensity

Integrated-circuit industry revenue equalled about NT$227k, or US$7.1k, per Taiwan resident.

What the Data Shows

Per-resident semiconductor output turns a huge industry total into a human-scale intensity metric. Taiwan’s NT$5.315tn integrated-circuit (IC) industry is not just large in absolute terms; it is enormous relative to the island’s population. The Korea comparison is useful but not perfect because it uses exports, not total industry output. That caveat is worth keeping visible rather than hiding it.

Data table

Per resident — Taiwan US$7.1k Output vs export benchmark
Per resident — Korea US$2.7k 2.6x

Data notes & caveats

Do not label Korea’s value as output. It is export intensity. Japan is not included because a clean same-source 2024 semiconductor-output value was not found.

Methodology

Taiwan uses Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association and Industrial Technology Research Institute 2024 integrated-circuit industry revenue divided by Taiwan’s 2024 population. Korea uses 2024 semiconductor exports divided by population as a benchmark because a fully comparable same-source industry-output series was not found in this pass.

Source consistency notes

Taiwan uses industry revenue while Korea uses semiconductor exports. The comparison is directionally useful but not same-metric.
