Taiwan Port TEUs, 2024

Kaohsiung handled 9.23m TEU, far ahead of Keelung, Taichung and Taipei.

What the Data Shows

Taiwan’s container-port ranking shows how concentrated the island’s maritime gateway function is. Kaohsiung handled about two thirds of all 2024 TIPC container throughput, while the next three ports were each near 1.4 to 1.7 million TEU. The gap makes Kaohsiung’s role visible without needing a map.

Data table

Kaohsiung 9.23m TEU
Keelung 1.65m TEU
Taichung 1.61m TEU
Taipei 1.44m TEU

Data notes & caveats

TEU means twenty-foot equivalent unit. Keelung is a residual estimate from the same TIPC total and should be replaced with a direct Keelung table if extracted.

Methodology

Uses TIPC 2024 container-throughput tables. Kaohsiung, Taichung and Taipei are taken from port pages; Keelung is derived as TIPC total minus those three because the reported TIPC container total is concentrated in the four listed container ports.
