Taiwan Water Use by Sector, 2024

Agriculture used 69.57% of water, far above domestic and industrial use.

What the Data Shows

Taiwan’s water-use split shows that scarcity is not only an industrial issue. Agriculture accounted for nearly 70% of 2024 consumption, while industry was about 10% and domestic use about 20%. The graphic gives context for drought tradeoffs because the largest water user is not the sector most associated with Taiwan’s export economy.

Data table

Agriculture 69.57%
Domestic 20.38%
Industry 10.05%
Water use 15.59bn m³

Data notes & caveats

WRA notes that industrial-water estimation methods changed from 2020, so long-run comparisons before 2020 require caution.
