Taiwan Export Orders vs Actual Exports in December 2024

December export orders were US$52.9bn, above customs exports of US$43.6bn.

What the Data Shows

Export orders are a demand-pipeline indicator, while customs exports are realized shipments. Comparing the two in the same month shows how much order value sat ahead of shipped goods. The official note that orders do not necessarily become exports from Taiwan is important because overseas production can break a simple one-to-one lag.

Data notes & caveats

MOEA notes that not all export orders are necessarily exported from Taiwan because of overseas production. Treat this as pipeline intensity, not a direct shipment forecast.

Methodology

Use MOEA December 2024 export orders and MOF December 2024 customs exports. Calculate the gap as orders minus exports and the order/export ratio as export orders divided by exports. This is a same-month pipeline comparison, not a formal lag model.
